Earth-i is seeking to hire a Junior Project Manager to join its busy and thriving geo-spatial artificial intelligence (AI) team.

Earth-i is developing automated analytics and insights products based on Earth Observation images and video from satellites. We are using advanced AI techniques to derive meaning from the satellite data at scale.

Role Description:

Reporting to Earth-i’s Head of Institutional Engagement, you will work closely with Earth-i technical and commercial staff to oversee and ensure the smooth delivery of a mix of institutionally-funded R&D projects and client-funded commercial projects.

The role is to be undertaken remotely / working from home, with occasional travel to Surrey (UK) for company meetings and events, and occasional travel to client meetings in the UK or internationally.

On-the-job training and guidance will be provided to ease transition in to the role. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with good organisational and communication skills to build up their experience as a project manager in a small but dynamic high-tech company environment, whilst also building up their understanding of the satellite earth observation industry and artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

Primary Responsibilities:

    Supported by Earth-i’s Head of Institutional Engagement, your primary responsibility will be to act as Project Manager for the company’s various active projects. Your day-to day duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of project documentation such as the project management plan, internal and external monthly progress reports, and milestone progress reports;
  • Organising and leading project review meetings, and producing and distributing agendas, slide decks and minutes of those meetings, ensuring that any actions are followed up in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring clear and proactive communication between Earth-i, any suppliers/subcontractors, and the client/funding organisation; and organising and leading meetings with clients and suppliers as needed to progress the project work;
  • Ensuring that project milestones are met and project deliverables are prepared and delivered on time, with any risk of slippage escalated to the senior leadership team in good time;
  • Tracking of project expenditure, ensuring that all time spent on each project by Earth-i staff is correctly recorded and allocated to the appropriate project;
  • Ensuring that projects adhere to Earth-i’s project management processes, as well as the project management requirements of the client or funding body;
  • Maintaining a risk register for each project, and keeping this up to date as the project progresses;
  • Working with the Earth-
  • i accounts team to ensure that client invoices are raised on time when they are due;

  • Keeping accurate record keeping for invoicing and audit where required
  • Supporting the sales/bid team with any project management specific input or requirements or cost estimates, during the sales/bidding phase for securing new projects for the company;
  • Other administrative duties as required to ensure the successful initiation, execution and completion of the company’s projects.

Essential Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years work experience as a Junior Project Manager;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and client-facing communications purposes;
  • Ability to work autonomously without the need for constant supervision;
  • Solid organisational skills with attention to detail and ability to multi-task;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook etc…

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of Microsoft Project or equivalent planning tool;
  • Experience of JIRA or equivalent Agile software development management tool;
  • Experience working within an ISO9001 Quality Management environment;
  • Foundation or equivalent level recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, AgilePM, APM, etc.);
  • Experience of space sector project life cycle (e.g. ESA project work).
