British New Space Pioneer Earth-i today announced new senior appointments who will help meet an increasing demand for insights and analysis drawn from its high-quality, high-resolution Earth Observation (EO) images and video data.
In January Earth-i cemented its position at the forefront of the commercialisation of space and the rapid evolution of the New Space market with the launch of the VividX2 satellite, the technology prototype for its Vivid-i Constellation. Vivid-i will be the first commercial constellation in the world able to provide full-colour, full-motion video showing life on Earth.
The first videos recorded by VividX2 can be seen on Earth-i’s YouTube channel and demonstrate Earth-i’s ability to deliver an unprecedented level of detail in full motion video, whilst also extracting still imagery to meet an ever-wider range of needs.
In addition to video and still images from its VividX2 satellite, Earth-i sources still images from the DMC3, KOMPSAT and SuperView Constellations.
Owning and operating its own constellation is a natural evolution of Earth-i’s existing and well-regarded image data and EO analytics business. The new constellation will enable Earth-i to meet the rapidly growing demand for insights derived from high-resolution EO data from commercial organisations that want to improve investment and trading decisions, monitor and track their assets more cost effectively, track changes or activity in critical locations – and predict future events with more certainty.
The new recruits bring many years of experience and expertise across the EO and technology industry:
- Adina Gillespie – Institutional Strategist
Adina joins Earth-i from Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) where she was Head of EO and Science Applications. She is responsible for delivering strategic advice and guidance to Earth-i’s institutional customers who want to use insight from space to improve their decision-making.
She has also served as an EO specialist at The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the UK (Defra), spent five years on the EO Advisory Committee to the UK Space Agency and chaired the Industrial Advisory Group on Commercial EO Regulations for the UK. She is currently serving on the Satellite Applications Catapult Advisory Group and the Regional Catapult Advisory Board.
- Charles Davis – Chief Operating Officer
With more than 22 years experience across all aspects of telecom, IT services and digital transformation, Charles is focused on ensuring that Earth-i remains an agile and flexible company able to meet the changing needs of its customers as both Earth-i and the New Space and EO industries continue to evolve.
Previously he was CEO of SAS Global, a managed service provider to the enterprise and SME markets with more than 300 networks in 65 countries and customers across all vertical markets.
- Sean Corbett MBE – Director of Security and Geo-intelligence
Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sean Corbett joins Earth-i after thirty years’ service as a professional intelligence officer in the RAF. He brings significant operational experience and leadership and a deep understanding of the UK defence intelligence environment. He has unparalleled international credentials within the defence intelligence community, having worked at senior levels in NATO and most recently as the first non-US Deputy Director of a US Intelligence Agency. As the Deputy Director for Commonwealth Integration at the Defence Intelligence Agency he focused on the sharing of intelligence between Australia, Canada and New Zealand, the US and UK.
At Earth-i Sean will be working with the UK’s Ministry of Defence and other military and security organisations, both within and outside the UK.
Richard Blain, CEO of Earth-i, said: “We welcome Adina, Charles and Sean to the Earth-i team. We are growing rapidly and their expertise, energy and enthusiasm will help us to better serve our current and future defence and institutional customers.”
