Earth-i today congratulated its partner Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) in successfully downloading the first video footage from its technology demonstrator Carbonite-1. The demonstration of this capability marks an exciting leap forward in the development of commercial applications of Earth Observation data from space, not least as it follows on from yesterday’s announcement by Earth-i of plans for its own constellation of this type of satellite.
With further development of this class of satellite by partners SSTL, Earth-i will develop and own the world’s first constellation of optical satellites to offer full-colour, full-motion video of any location on Earth. The successful download of the first video data from technology demonstrator Carbonite-1 is an important milestone completed in the development of this world leading technology.
